Home Physiotherapist in Cambridge and Newmarket for older adults - home visits

What is the purpose of a physiotherapy home visit?

Having physiotherapy in your own home after surgery, an injury or illness can help you recover more quickly.

If you have experienced a period of inactivity, whether that be at home or as a result of a stay in hospital, it’s important that you regain your physical strength, confidence, mobility and balance as soon as possible. Physiotherapy can play a crucial role in helping you achieve this.

Working with a physio at home can be particularly helpful if you are struggling with day to day things like using the stairs, getting in and out of bed or walking outside.

A bespoke, supervised physiotherapy exercise programme can also help improve the progression of long-term conditions such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s Disease.

Elderly care and treatment at home in Newmarket

The key to an effective home-based programme is a thorough assessment and diagnosis of all factors which might be affecting your function.

When working with older adults at home or in the clinic, our physios will assess your general strength, fitness, medical history, mobility, confidence, balance and flexibility to create a tailored treatment plan based on your own personal goals.

Our home physiotherapists will also treat any physical issues causing pain, screen for trip hazards to ensure home safety, recommend appropriate walking aids if needed, liaise with GPs when a review of medication might be indicated and advise on suitable household aids such as toilet raises, chair raises and grab rails.

How to access physiotherapy support if you are shielding or self-isolating at home in Newmarket

We are prioritising physiotherapy support at home for older adults whose mobility has deteriorated, to reduce the risk of falling and the many other health issues associated with reduced physical activity in older adults.

We have very careful screening procedures in place and if we visit in person, our physios will wear a mask, disposable apron and disposable gloves to minimize the risk of coronavirus transmission.

We can also support you remotely by video link, either after we have visited to follow up on your progress or as an alternative to visiting you in person. We can teach relatives or carers the techniques they need to help your recovery and send you the programme with videos so you can follow on your own or together with a helper between appointments.

If you have any questions at all about how a physiotherapist could help you at home, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
