Specialist physiotherapy for women in Newmarket

Whether you gave birth recently or you had your children several years ago, pregnancy and labour can be hard on your pelvic floor, abdominals, lower back and pelvis. Many women will experience some muscle weakness which, if left untreated, may cause pain, weakness or incontinence.

At our Newmarket clinic, we offer specialist women’s health physiotherapy to help you in the postnatal period. We are really experienced at treating low back problems, pain in the front of the pelvis (symphysis pubis dysfunction), separation of your tummy muscles (DRAM), pelvic girdle pain, incontinence and/or issues related to the pelvic floor muscles. You are welcome to use our services from as early as 6 weeks after the birth of your baby.

Postnatal fitness and strength & conditioning with a physiotherapist

Taking care of your baby can be extremely tough on you, both physically and emotionally.

Getting into healthy habits early on will help you to cope better and make sure that your body is well prepared for the physical demands of looking after your baby.

Our specialist women’s health physiotherapists will examine you physically and If you are experiencing any pelvic floor issues or dysfunction such as bowel or bladder incontinence, you will be offered an internal examination. We will also complete our ‘Postnatal Movement Screen’ to identify any asymmetries, strength or flexibility deficits and ways of moving which might put you at risk of developing an injury. A bespoke programme of corrective exercises can then be developed for your own individual issues to help you get back to doing the things you want to.

What may the treatment include?

Treatment might include ‘hands-on’ techniques such as scar tissue release or remedial massage to relieve pain and help you move more freely. Your programme of corrective exercises will be provided with video links, so you can be sure you are doing them correctly at home and so that we can measure your progress.
