Effective physiotherapy treatment for foot and ankle injuries in Newmarket
Ankle sprains are the most common type of ankle injury we treat at our Newmarket clinic. Many are as a result of a sports injury but we also see lots of patients who have twisted their ankle simply stepping off a curb or while walking on uneven ground. For most people the pain is caused by injury of the ligaments on the outside of the ankle and will respond really well to physiotherapy treatment.
Ankle sprains aren’t the only foot and ankle injuries we treat though. Achilles tendon pain, nerve compression (tarsal tunnel syndrome), ankle instability, arthritis and plantarfasciitis are also frequently seen by our physiotherapists and we offer a range of effective treatments depending on your diagnosis.
Accurate diagnosis of your ankle pain
Swelling, stiffness, pain on taking weight through the affected side, redness and warmth are all common signs of a sprain but as an accurate diagnosis is key, we allow an hour for initial appointments to ensure everything is assessed thoroughly before we begin treatment.
Common ankle conditions that we treat at our Newmarket Clinic include:
- Sprains and strains
- Sports injuries
- Post-operative rehab
- Achilles tendon pain (tendionopathy or tendinititis)
- Plantarfasciitis (heel pain)
- Arthritis
- Peroneal tendon pain
- Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome
- Calf pain
How a physiotherapist can help with your ankle pain
If your injury happened recently then ultrasound, supportive taping, remedial massage and early exercises for strength, movement and balance might be recommended to you by our physiotherapists.
It’s important to restore control of movement around your ankle and your balance reactions to prevent re-injury, so an effective rehabilitation programme is vital. We provide all exercises taught with video links for home practice through an app on your phone, so you can be sure you are doing them correctly and we can monitor your progress.
